Austin
Mixing the laid-back Texas attitude with the sophistication of a college town, Austin is a fascinating and lively small city. The University of Texas at Austin is one of America's most respected, and its pool of talent has fueled the city's recent economic boom. There's an abundance of restaurants, including of course some great Texas barbecue, as well as lively nightlife. With its laid back ambiance, parks and green space, Austin locals know they're living in one of America's most pleasant cities.
Wellington
Wrapped around the shores of a beautiful bay, Wellington is both New Zealand's capital and its lively social and cultural center. Despite its political importance, it's still a fairly small city, easy to walk around, with a relaxed and informal atmosphere. It is home to the country's recently opened national museum, and boasts an array of restaurants as well as a hopping bar and nightlife district.
Santa Barbara
Set along white sand beaches north of L.A., Santa Barbara is a lovely city built in elegant Spanish-Mediterranean architecture. Boasting sun-soaked Californian weather without the hassles of a big city, Santa Barbara's charm, shopping, and great location have made it the "American Riviera."
Edinburgh
Edinburgh is the ancient capital of Scotland and a historical university city. Winding streets lined with elegant old houses connect the city's universities, castles, and charming squares, while cobblestone alleys branch off into quiet neighborhoods. And if you're looking for locals, you can find them in the many bars, bookshops, and cafes that the city offers.
