石虎廊道

為了保護保育動物，高公局在去年，就在國道三號苗栗通霄路段，利用跨越橋打造「保育廊道」，方便石虎等野生動物族群遷徙，避免誤闖國道，丟掉性命。一年來已經拍到石虎走天橋的畫面，顯示保育廊道有發揮作用，讓工務人員非常開心。

石虎走在「動物保育廊道」，珍貴畫面讓保育人士振奮，這麼辛苦，總算看到了成果。因為如果沒有「走天橋」，動物一旦誤闖國道，小命可就難保。

國道三苗栗通霄路段，打造跨越橋，兼具生態走廊，路寬7.5公尺，5米車子走，2.5米留給動物。種草種樹，鋪磚方便行走，植栽灌木，一來擋風，二來偽裝融入野外環境。

除了「保育廊道」，考量動物誤入國道，兩旁還架起「動物防護網」，間接引導動物脫離。

Leopard cat found using specially built animal corridor (2014/05/26)

Video evidence has been acquired of a leopard cat using a special corridor to cross a national freeway in Miaoli. The corridor was built to safeguard protected species. 

Conservationists say the endemic leopard cat is a national treasure whose value can’t be measured. Seeing one walk in this animal corridor over a national freeway brings great excitement because it shows that the hard work which went building this corridor has finally paid off. 

National Freeway No. 3 near Tongsiao Township is the location of an overpass bridge which also serves as a special animal corridor. The bridge has a total width of 7.5 meters, with 5 meters dedicated to vehicles and 2.5 meters for animals. The portion for animals is planted with trees, shrubs and grass to shield wind and camouflage the path.

The asphalt surface was covered with non-woven fabric, then 30 centimeters of soil was added and vegetation planted.

In addition to the animal corridor, both sides of the freeway are draped with nets to prevent animals from straying onto the roadway.
