手機的英文叫做 cell phone (由 cellular phone 衍生而來，但 cellular phone 現已越來越少見)、mobile phone 或 handset (書面文件用得比較多)。市面上的手機一般被分為直立式、滑蓋和翻蓋，它們的英文分別如下：

直立式手機：bar type, bar phone (Moto 內部俗稱為 candy bar)

滑蓋手機：slide/slider phone

翻蓋 (折疊式) 手機：flip phone, flip-flop；貝殼機：clamshell (phone)

Flip-flop 除了意為「翻蓋手機」外，還有幾個相當常見的意思，其中之一就是「人字拖」。但英文的人字拖還有一個字，那就是 thong，而 thong 還有另一個意思 — 丁字褲。
