復興航空創辦人，高齡101歲的陳文寬，今天接受交通部頒贈一等獎章，有著”航空教父”美名的陳文寬，曾經在二次世界大戰時，援救過美國少校杜立德，以及當時行政院長孔祥熙夫人宋藹齡，是我國航空史上，相當著名的傳奇飛行員。

一身灰西裝，有我國航空教父之稱的陳文寬，獲頒一等獎章。

陳文寬在第二次世界大戰期間，接下多項高難度任務。1941年香港淪陷前，他用載運量14人客機，成功運送27人出來，包括宋藹齡。1942年，他又駕駛載運量21人的客機，營救78人逃離緬甸，乘客中，包括才剛剛去空襲東京的美國少校杜立德。

戰爭結束後，陳文寬投入空運界，拿到了我國民航核發的第一張商用民航飛行執照，創立第一家民營航空公司復興航空。

Legendary pilot receives first grade transportation medal (2014/06/03)

Founder of local airline TransAsia Airways, Chen Wen-kuan, who is now 101 years old, was presented the first grade medal by Ministry of Transportation for his lifetime contribution in the industry. Known as the godfather of aviation, Chen is also known for saving the life of American military commander General James Doolittle during the Second World War.

Showing up in a grey suit, Chen Wen-kuan, is known to many as the godfather of aviation in Taiwan. He was recently presented the first grade transportation medal.

I am grateful to be here today and receive this honor especially for my age.

Chen performed several challenging tasks during the Second World War. Before the battle of Hong Kong in 1941, he managed to bring 27 people out in a 14-seat plane. One of the passengers was Song Ai-ling. The next year, he flew a 21-seat plane to rescue 78 people from Myanmar. Also on the flight was American Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle, who just ordered the bombing raid of Tokyo.

I talked to him on the plane, but he never mentioned a word about bombing Japan, until the next morning when we got into Kolkata and read the newspaper.

After the Second World War was over, Chen began his career in the aviation industry and obtained the first commercial pilot license in Taiwan. This allowed him to embark upon a new career as the founder of Taiwan’s first commercial airline.
