Beside
beside 是介系詞，它主要有以下意思：
1. 在….的旁邊：She sits beside me.
2. 和….無關；離題：That’s beside the point.
這句話很常見唷！它的意思是「那不是重點」、「那無關緊要」、「那不相關」。例如在會議上討論到全球暖化，但 A 先生突然發表「我們要以領養代替購買」的言論，那就離題啦！
這時候 B 小姐就可以說：That’s beside the point.（那離題了。）
又例如以下情況：
Linda: I think David and Kate could have been a perfect couple because both of them are good-looking and well-educated.（我覺得大衛和凱特應該要是一對情侶，他們長得好看，又受過良好教育。）

beside oneself 形容一個人情緒很滿，有點要失控了。但那個情緒可以是好的，也可以是壞的。通常搭配 with 來表達是什麼樣的情緒。
Upon learning the truth, Jack was beside himself with anger.（一發現這個事實，傑克勃然大怒。）
I was beside myself with joy when I knew she’s alive.（當我知道她還活著時，我欣喜若狂。）
其實 beside 原本也有「除了….之外」的意思，但現在多用 besides 來表示。

3. 此外；而且
besides 當副詞，有「此外」、「而且」的意思，通常你講一句話後，突然想到第二句話，就可以加上 besides，然後再表達自己事後的想法。
I don’t want to go outside because it’s too hot. Besides, I have lots of things to do.（我不想到外面因為太熱了。而且，我有好多事要做。）
