雖然都是在…上方、上面，不過還是有用法上的差異喔！

On

強調某物在另一物上方，且兩者有接觸

An apple is on my head.（我的頭上有一顆蘋果。）

Over

1.強調某物在另一物的垂直正上方，且兩者沒有接觸

An apple hangs over me.（有一顆蘋果懸掛在我的正上方。）
There’s a bridge over the river.（河上有座橋。）

2.某物在上方移動而越過另一物

A plane flew over the house.（一架飛機從房子上方飛過。）

3.某物在上方覆蓋、遮蔽、壟罩住另一物

My dad built a roof over the courtyard.（我爸爸為庭院建了一個頂棚。）
The sun shone over the valley.（陽光照耀整座山谷。）

Above

1.指某物高於另一物，但不一定位於垂直正上方，且兩者沒有接觸

The moon is now above the trees.（月亮高掛在樹的上方。）
Raise your hands above your head.（把你的手舉到頭上。）
The sun rose above the horizon.（太陽升起，並高過地平線。）

2.指某種抽象的標準、程度、水平高於、在…之上

Men and women of eighteen and above are eligible to vote.（18歲（含）以上的男女都擁有投票權。）
In the company, Angela ranks above Ron.（在這家公司，Angela的位階高於Ron。）
The temperature will stay above zero during the daytime.（白天時，溫度會高於零度。）

3.指上述的、前面有提過的

under, below, beneath 在…下面

雖然都是在…下方、下面，不過還是有用法上的差異喔！

Under

1.強調 A 在 B 的垂直正下方，B 是立體的，例如床、沙發、樹、桌子

Tim hid under the bed.（Tim 躲在床下。）
We were playing chess under the tree.（我們在樹下下棋。）

2.某物在另一物下方有動作、移動

We drove under the bridge.（我們開車經過橋下。）
That naughty boy crawled under the fence.（那個頑皮的男孩從柵欄下爬了過去。）

3.某物在下方被另一物覆蓋、遮蔽、壟罩

Leonard wore a T-shirt under the shirt.（Leonard 在襯衫下面穿了一件 T-shirt。）
I am under a lot of stress.（我被壓力籠罩，意即：我壓力很大。）

4.年齡、金額等數字低於、在…之下

Applicants for the jobs must be forty and under.（這份工作的應徵者必須在40歲（含）以下。）
Angela is under 44 kg.（Angela的體重低於44公斤。）

5.分屬在…類別之下

What do bats come under?（蝙蝠歸屬在哪一類？）
Books on Cecil Beaton will probably be under Art or Photography rather than Drama.（關於 Cecil Beaton 的書很可能歸在藝術或攝影類，而不是戲劇類。）

Below

1.指 A 物低於 B 物，但不一定位於垂直正下方，且兩者沒有接觸。

There is a river below the village.（村莊下有一條小河。）
The movie theater is below the supermarket.（電影院在超市樓下。）

2.指低於某種抽象的標準、程度、水平、在…之下

The total cost of the clothes Adele bought yesterday was below/under two thousand dollars.（Adele 昨天買的所有衣服總計低於 2,000 元。）
Nana has three people working below her.（Nana 有三個下屬。）
The temperature has dropped below freezing point tonight.（今晚的溫度低於零度。）

Beneath

1.強調某物在另一物的垂直正下方時，和 under 通用。不過 beneath 比較正式和文雅，多出現在文學作品中。

After weeks at sea, it was wonderful to feel firm ground beneath our feet once again.（在海上待了好幾個星期後，雙腳再次踏上堅實土地的感覺真好。）

2.低於、劣於…

Jeremy considered that job beneath him.（Jeremy 認為做這份工作有失他的身份。）
Tina is so arrogant that she thinks everyone is beneath her.（Tina自大又傲慢，覺得所有人都比她低下。）
